Tips & Helpful Guidelines for Picking out the Correct Engine.

Info you need to have available to choose an engine.
  • Crankshaft Length & Diameter (straight, tapered, threaded)
  • Does your engine have a fuel pump or is it gravity fed?
  • Do you have an electric clutch that you flip a switch to engage the blades, or do you move a lever that tightens a belt?
  • Does your engine have the tank installed or is it mounted remotely on the equipment?
  • Is your current horsepower sufficient or does it seem under powered, was your equipment available with a lager engine?
  • Do you need remote or manual controls? Are you using a throttle cable and key switch on the equipment or are these controls mounted on the engine?
  • What features do you need? Low oil sensor, Fuel Pump, Oil Filter, Backup Recoil Starter, Electric Starter, Muffler....

  •
    Horizontal Shaft Models:
    • Choose Matching Horse Power
    • Match Diameter of Shaft (A)
    • Match Height of Shaft (B)
    • Match Length of Shaft (C) Note: Length is measured from the accessory mounting surface of the block.
    • Check with manufacturer of your equipment, see what engine models they have used on your machine.
    • Check dimensions of your engine compartment to see what size engine will fit, you may not be able to use the new (OHV) overhead valve engines, due to height restraints.
    • On larger engines, the exhaust system may be provided by the equipment manufacturer and not by the engine manufacturer.  You may need to call them to find out.
    • Email or Call us with your original model type or spec numbers from the old engine.  We can usually suggest a replacement engine.
    • Check out our website for line drawing.
    Vertical Shaft Models:

    • Match Horsepower
    • Measure Diameter of shaft (B)
    • Measure Length (D) Note: Length is measure from the mounting surface of the engine to the tip of the shaft.
    • Match keyway (straight, half moon, etc.)
    • Check for safety features such as blade brake or other special quick stop controls.
    • Check overall dimensions of the engine compared to your engine compartment or deck dimensions for clearance on any discharge chutes.
